Laboratory Equipment

We have laboratory equipment that allows our doctors quick results for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

  • IDEXX ProCyte® machine performs complete blood counts.
  • IDEXX Catalyst One® blood machine that give results for chemistries and electrolytes.
  • IDEXX Snap Pro® allows us to test for Feline Leukemia/ FIV, Canine Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis. These tests take only 8 to 10 minutes to perform in-house.
  • Our centrifuge and refractometer machines assist with thorough examination of your pet's urine.

All results are recorded electronically into our patient's medical records for future reference. We keep the process streamlined so we have easy access to your pet’s medical history.

Digital radiology

Radiographs are an important tool that our veterinarians use in diagnosing many medical problems and conditions. We can take digital x-rays on-site with our state-of-the-art Fuji digital x-ray system. This allows for faster results and aids in the development of an appropriate treatment plan for your pet.

X-rays allow us to examine internal organs and bones. We are able to visualize size, shape, and position of these structures. We are also able to see abnormalities such as bladder and kidney stones, broken bones, and some ingested objects. Sometimes special dyes are administered to the animal to help in evaluating the function of some systems.

Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound is another tool used in diagnosing and following a patient’s condition. It allows us to examine the internal organs and organ functions of your pet in a non-invasive way.

We are able to evaluate abnormalities, measure internal organs, and fine locations of some tumors, increasing the chances we catch disease early and can take proactive steps to treat your pets ailments.

Other animal hospitals refer their patients to Fairport Animal Hospital so we can perform an ultrasound. When this happens, we review the findings with the owner of the pet and then forward all of the information to the patient's regular/referring veterinarian.

Electrocardiography (EKG's)

An EKG can be an extremely valuable tool. It gives us the ability to monitor cardiac problems and progression. EKG’s are often utilized in conjunction with radiographs and/or an ultrasound to thoroughly evaluate cardiac conditions. A few of the different cardiac diseases that can be evaluated include: arrhythmias, pericardial diseases, and evaluation of drug therapy in your pets.

Dental Cleaning

Oral hygiene is as important for our pets as it is for ourselves. Most of us do not brush our pet’s teeth as often as we should. Tartar buildup is inevitable. On every physical exam your pet receives, our veterinarians evaluate his/her mouth. It is not uncommon for a middle aged to older pet to need a thorough dental cleaning.

Our licensed technicians are skilled in cleaning your pet’s teeth under general anesthesia. The teeth are scaled of dental tartar, polished, and rinsed with a Chlorhexadine rinse. Your pet will spend the day with us and you will be able to speak with a technician when you pick him/her up to discuss the procedure and recommended follow up care at home.

Our digital dental x-ray unit allows the vet to see what's happening to your pet's teeth below the gum line and deal with problems that would otherwise go unnoticed until tooth pain develops.

Teeth may have rotten or exposed roots, fractures, or receding gums. Be assured we only recommend extracting teeth when absolutely necessary.

Surgery

Our surgeons not only perform spay and neuter procedures, but also carry out crucial surgeries, tumor removals, exploratory surgeries, remove bladder stones, cesarean sections, and necessary reconstructive surgery. This is just a short list of the surgeries we can perform.

Our on-site surgical suite allows us to perform various procedures on many different species of animals. We perform surgery not only on our feline and canine patients, but avian, reptile, and many other small mammals.

Our licensed veterinary technicians utilize their skills to monitor all patients before, during, and after surgery. They are assisted by our surgical monitors which evaluate blood pressure, oxygen saturation in the blood, body temperature, heart rate, CO2 levels, and respirations.

Accuvet CO2 Laser

Our surgeons utilize the benefits of the CO2 laser during all surgical procedures. The Accuvet Laser provides faster recovery for your pet by:

  • Reducing blood loss during surgery as compared to the traditional scalpel blade
  • Causes less pain, therefore allowing for a more comfortable recovery

Homeagain Microchips

A pet microchip creates a forever bond between you and the pet you love. And together with the HomeAgain Pet Recovery System, you’ll give your pet the best chance of coming back home to you. This painless procedure is great for pets of all sizes and types.
