There are some misconceptions about having your pet spayed. There will be no adverse personality changes and pets who are spayed or neutered do not become overweight and lazy due to surgery. It does not shorten your pet’s life, in fact it may lengthen it by reducing the risks of the certain medical conditions that often occur in older, un-spayed females. There is no medical benefit for cats to have at least one litter of kittens before being spayed.

All cats should be neutered or spayed unless you plan on breeding them. There are several important reasons for this. First, it will eliminate heats in females and prevent unplanned pregnancies. This will also prevent many unwanted kittens, which end up being euthanized. Neutered males are less likely to roam and get into fights. Neutering will also prevent spraying and urinating outside of the litter box.
