Oral hygiene is as important for
our pets as it is for ourselves.
Most of us do not brush our pet’s
teeth as often as we should.
Tartar buildup is inevitable.
On every physical exam
your pet receives our doctors
evaluate the mouth. It is not
uncommon for a middle age to
older pet to need a dental cleaning.
Our licensed technicians are skilled in cleaning your pet’s teeth under general anesthesia. The teeth are scaled of dental tartar, polished and rinsed with a Chlorhexadine rinse. Your pet will spend the day with us and you will be able to speak with a technician when you pick him up to discuss the procedure and recommended follow up care at home.
Once we have gotten the tartar buildup removed it is sometimes necessary to extract teeth. Teeth may have rotten or exposed roots, fractures or receding gums. Be assured we will only extract teeth when absolutely necessary. Antibiotics are given in the hospital and sent home with pets who require extractions. If we feel your pet would benefit from pain medication we will recommend that it also be dispensed.
